On the Red Dot commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Japanese Occupation in Singapore. On 15 February 1942, the British surrendered Singapore to the victorious Imperial Japanese Army. Japan’s Rising Sun flag flew from all corners of the city then, heralding the start of the darkest chapter in Singapore’s history. This episode shines the spotlight on how the people of Singapore coped with daily life and responded with resourcefulness to the Japanese Occupation, a period of great adversity. It celebrates their resilience, tenacity and resourcefulness to survive… values that remain important and relevant today. It is a story of how amid the devastation, hope remained…. and in the aftermath of the chaos and hardship, ideals for a nation was built.
