Series premiere. Barry (Bill Hader) is a disillusioned Midwesterner who became a professional hitman at the urging of Monroe Fuches, an old family friend who’s become his handler. Burned out by the numbing sameness of whacking strangers, Barry is sent by Fuches to LA, where he’s tasked with killing Ryan Madison, a young actor who has been sleeping with the wife of a Chechen mob leader, Goran Pazar. Tailing his target to a rehearsal space, Barry accidentally interrupts an acting class overseen by teacher/guru Gene Cousineau. After subbing for a no-show student in a scene with Ryan and bonding with the class at a bar after class, Barry is smitten by the acting bug - not to mention a pretty student named Sally Reed. But before Gene will let such a woefully inexperienced thespian into his class, Barry has to prove his meddle with a monologue - a challenge complicated by the fact that Barry has some unfinished business to take care of with Goran and his Chechen sidekick, Noho Hank.
