Dalforce and the Malay regiment fought bravely alongside Allied units during the Japanese campaign in Singapore. Dalforce, a volunteer army, had been quickly assembled after the sinking of Force Z. Despite the lack of training and equipment, the volunteer army fought bravely alongside allied units at various battles. While Dalforce was a volunteer army, the Malay regiment was a Malayan defence unit set up by the British. In Singapore, Lieutenant Adnan was holding off a key position atop of Opium Hill, off Pasir Panjang. Despite being outnumbered, Lieutenant Adnan and his men fought bravely, even using hand-to-hand combat in certain portions of the battle.
