The Zapin (Malay) and Samrah (Arab) dance are similar but claimed by 2 different communities. Did the Malays borrow this dance from the Arab traders and make it their own ? Ibrahim explores the Arab’s cultural heritage that are still preserved. Unlike the Arabs, the Arab have only left structural or architectural marks of their presence in Singapore’s past. Regardless, there are aspects of their culture that they still hung on tightly to.
