Pu Songling's tales of the Strange are in essence tales of boundaries between two worlds and what can happen there. The borderland between normal and strange, reality and illusion, dream and awakening, life and death, are herein charted, and the lands to either side found not to be distinct, but rather to bleed together at their edges.
