The Jilin Food Zone, an area spanning 1450 km2 (roughly double the size of Singapore) was established in Yongji county (between Changchun and Jilin city) in 2012. It has been designed as a foot-mouth-disease-free zone, which will provide an alternative and sustainable source of pork for Singapore in future. Spearheaded by some of Singapore's most veteran veterinarians, such a venture was not without its challenges.
