17 year old world cadet champion Lau Ywen delivered Singapore’s second fencing gold after winning the women’s individual sabre final. Ywen’s achievement was remarkable as she had suffered a stress fracture in her back in February and could only return to training in July. Nevertheless, she kept her cool and delivered as she built upon her historic World Junior Championship title. Lau Ywen is also the first fencer to have ever won Sportsgirl of the Year award.
