In this episode of 'A Singaporean Abroad', we get to know 48-year-old Alvin Yong, a Singaporean entrepreneur who is also passionate about social enterprise. Seven years ago, during a holiday in Chiang Rai, Thailand, he met Kitt, a local tour guide who is also a rice farmer. After trying out rice-farming and getting to know Kitt and his family better, Alvin found the experiences so meaningful that he and Kitt decided to collaborate and launch Tigerland Rice Farm as an eco-tourism project, offering a unique farm-stay experience for Singaporean families and groups. Besides contributing to the farmers livelihood, Alvin and other Singaporeans also bring along books and donations to help the surrounding village communities. His aim is to help them run sustainable enterprises on their own and eventually help other people in turn.
